. Through Creed We Live, Through Faith We Rise

The Muslim Creed

The Faith That Revives the Heart and Guides Life

The Islamic creed (Aqidah) is the foundation upon which the entire religion rests. It is the compass that directs a Muslim’s worship, dealings, ethics, and relationship with Allah and with people.

Without a sound creed, deeds cannot be upright nor accepted, as Allah says:

“Whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah has grasped the firmest handhold.” (Quran 2:256)

---

What Does Creed Mean?

In language, Aqidah comes from what is firmly tied in the heart.

In Islamic terminology, it refers to firm belief without doubt in all matters that a Muslim is required to believe in—especially the six pillars of faith.

  • -

The Pillars of the Islamic Creed

1. Belief in Allah – His Oneness in Lordship, Worship, and His Names and Attributes.

2. Belief in the Angels – pure creations of light, entrusted with divine tasks.

3. Belief in the Divine Books – revealed for guidance, the greatest of which is the Quran.

4. Belief in the Messengers – guides sent to mankind, the final of whom is Muhammad ﷺ.

5. Belief in the Last Day – resurrection, accountability, and the eternal abode.

6. Belief in Divine Decree (Qadar) – that all happens by Allah’s knowledge, wisdom, and will.

---

The Importance of Creed in a Muslim’s Life

Unifies the purpose of life and answers why we exist.

Gives peace and certainty in the heart.

Strengthens against doubts and trials.

Acts as the scale for deeds—since actions are not accepted without sound faith.

---

Characteristics of the Islamic Creed

Divine in origin—not man-made.

Comprehensive—covering thought, emotions, and behavior.

Balanced—between extremes, intellect and revelation.

Clear and simple—accessible to both scholars and laypeople.

---

The Impact of Creed on a Muslim’s Personality

Gives resilience in times of hardship.

Cultivates noble character and virtues.

Deepens brotherhood with believers and mercy towards humanity.

Motivates selflessness, sincerity, and righteous work.

---

How Does a Muslim Hold Firm to His Creed?

1. Seek authentic knowledge

Return to the Quran, Sunnah, and the scholars of truth.

2. Practice what you believe

Creed is not theory—it is lived through honesty, trustworthiness, worship, and piety.

3. Keep righteous company

Good friends increase one’s faith, while heedless ones weaken it.

4. Avoid doubts and innovations

By clinging firmly to the Quran and Sunnah, and guarding against misguided ideologies.

5. Increase in remembrance and supplication

Like the Prophet ﷺ would say: “O Turner of the hearts, keep my heart firm upon Your religion.”

6. Be a living example

Let others see the beauty of Islam reflected in your actions.

--

Questions and Reflections

1. How does sound creed bring tranquility to the heart in times of hardship?

2. What are practical ways for parents to instill Aqidah in their children from an early age?

3. What is the link between creed and character in a Muslim’s daily life?

4. Is theoretical knowledge of creed enough without practice? Why or why not?

5. How can we protect ourselves from intellectual and doctrinal deviations today?

---

Conclusion

The creed of Islam is not just words to be memorized—it is life to be lived, light to guide the soul, and certainty that secures the believer’s heart.

Whoever holds fast to sound Aqidah will live with inner peace in this world and eternal happiness in the next, walking in the unending light of Allah.
